Originating in the 30's, produced by Eberhard Faber, the Blackwing Pencil has an impressive history of followers; John Steinbeck, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein and Chuck Jones to list a few. Having production difficulties in the 1990’s - production of the 602 was halted. However, in 2010, Palomino Blackwing acquired the brand from getname and the rest is history. There are currently four basic Blackwing pencils and the 602 is the original with matte, pearl and natural on the list. Blackwing does not assign a grade to their pencils - 602 is a soft HB. Cedar core, specially formulated graphite, unique eraser and a beautiful lacquered finish makes the pencil a joy to own and use. "Half the pressure, twice the speed."
